I love NorCal. But I need help.
As an experienced photographer, but one who is new to the Northern California area, I knew I needed to meet new people and find cool spots to shot. Last year while getting settled in Sacramento, I sponsored a fun Giveaway on my instagram account: free engagement session if you show me a unique place in Nor Cal! Within a few hours, I had several requests including one the bubbly and enthusiastic Ashley and her fiancé Steve.
Ashley painted a gorgeous picture describing how Steve had proposed to her on the secluded Sugar Pine Reservoir. Although she had some snapshots from their memorable day, the couple was longing for some more images to capture the beauty of the location – one that had always been special for them – and their commitment together. We set the lake engagement session a few days later and headed up into the mountains to discover the spot.
Tahoe Lake but not Lake Tahoe
Sugar Pine Reservoir is a small lake located in Tahoe National Forest – a true treasure of California. Although I have already had the privilege of shooting at the famous Lake Tahoe, the largest Alpine Lake in North America, I had yet to visit the surrounding Tahoe National Forest and all the delightful mountain locations within it. Sugar Pine was an absolute dream! Tucked away in the middle of a pine forest, we felt like the only ones to discover the deep blue lake meeting the gray green trees as the mist rose on their early morning session.
More important than capturing just the gorgeous location was to experience and share in the beautiful connection between Ashley and Steve. I only wish I could have continued to share the love on their wedding day, but alas I was on a different continent shooting some other lovely couples at the time. Regardless, this engagement shoot in Tahoe was a special place for them to come back to and I’m so happy to help them keep those memories alive.
Do you have a unique place for a wedding or engagement shoot in Northern California? Hit me up for a fun session!
